How to Independent Study with a Charter
Today, home education is the fastest-growing form of education in the United States, with approximately 3.7 million homeschool-educated students across the country in the fall of 2020. In California and nationwide, homeschooling has increased roughly 90% over the last ten years. One way to homeschool unique to California is by enrolling in an independent study program charter.
An independent study program charter is a *free, public charter school program where each family is assigned a credentialed teacher (Educational Facilitator/Teacher of Record) and together create a customized learning plan. Each charter program provides instructional funds that are used to support each individualized learning plan. Each month, a learner must provide a work plan and samples to show growth and hit milestones. Mrs Kim and Mrs Yoon are vendors for iLEAD Exploration, Excel Academy, Pacific Coast Academy and Cabrillo Point Academy. The assigned credential teacher directs funding toward the program.

How do I sign up?

What is required of me?
In order to be in compliance with the charter school, students must meet with their credentialed teacher each learning period, upload work samples and take standardized tests.
